There are a number of complex and detailed elements that go into searching for a new home. You have to search through numerous preferences and options, and there’s always plenty of paperwork to fill out.
One thing you don’t want to deal with during this process is a home that’s potentially working with faulty plumbing. Here are a few signs that our plumbers may need to inspect a location or make repairs before you consider it as a purchase.
Wherever you’re able, inspect the visible plumbing in a home you’re considering for purchase. Examples here include pipes under sinks, faucets, shower heads, water supply lines and other fixtures.
Also check all fittings and connections between these items if possible. If you notice leaking, condensation or standing water in any of these areas, this could be a sign of an issue. Leaks in a home can not only cause water to be in places you don’t want it, it can raise utility costs and also threaten water damage if not addressed properly.
Check out all sinks, faucets and showers in the new home, and look specifically at their draining speed. A drain that takes too long to drain out can signal a blockage in sewage somewhere in the system, or even worse, could be a sign that tree roots are clogging the main sewer line. This might force you to get a completely new system at a huge cost.
Look for stains on both the ceilings and the walls in rooms. These stains will usually be brown water stains, though there could be others. These typically mean there’s a leaky roof or pipe somewhere in the area, and if this is the case, this should be handled by the seller before any purchase is made.
