Risks and Signs of High Water Pressure

January 16th, 2018 | seowerkz

No one wants to take a shower or wash their dishes with a weak, ineffective stream of water – we all desire proper water pressure in our plumbing fixtures. At the same time, though, many people fail to consider that water pressure isn’t simply a non-concern as long as it’s above a certain minimum threshold; having water pressure that’s too high can be equally or even more damaging in multiple ways.

At Expert Plumbing, we’re here to help prevent these kinds of issues from taking place in your home. Here are some of the downsides of water pressure that’s too high, plus how you can identify this issue and work toward fixing it.

Possible Downsides

Overly high water pressure brings a price, both to your pocketbook and to your home. For every 10 minutes of water use with high pressure, six to 26 gallons of water are wasted – over time, this can amount to an enormous hike in your water bill each month.

In addition, high water pressure risks the deterioration of your home appliances far earlier than normal. Items like dishwashers, washing machines, water heaters and even the pipes throughout your home are under far more strain when handling high water pressure every day, and their life expectancy will go down.

Signs of High Pressure

  • Running toilets: One possible cause of a running or leaky toilet is overly high water pressure.
  • Banging pipes: This is one of the most common signs of high water pressure, as pipes that make a banging sound might be coming into contact with each other while moving extremely fast jets of water through them.
  • Leaking faucets: If you notice you have a faucet that leaks, but only when another plumbing appliance is in use (such as a shower), this could be due to high water pressure.

If you notice any of these signs, call Expert Plumbing and get one of our plumbers on the scene. We can test your water pressure and make recommendations on any changes you’ll need.
